This post is about to interface a seven segment LED display to an 8051 microcontroller. Seven segment LED display is very popular and it’s just 7 LEDs that have been combined into one case to make a convenient device for displaying numbers and some letters. Knowledge about how to interface a seven segment display to a microcontroller is very helpful in designing embedded systems.

Seven segment Displays are very common when it comes to display digits, these are widely used in clocks, stop watches and event counter etc. A Simple seven segment display.A seven segment display is an electronic display device that can display digits from 0-9.Every LED is assigned a name from 'a' to 'h' and is identified by its name.

seven segment is most common output device with a limitation that only digits and few characters can be displayed ex- you can not display 'k'.  in seven segment array of LEDs are arranged in a special pattern. as shown in figure 7 leds a-h is assigned for special digit/character while eighth LED 'h' is used to display the dot.particular LED glows when its corresponding pin goes high

the article is build around seven segment and keypad. the circuit takes input from keypad and display variable number on the screen.
